Congenital Birth Defects
Congenital birth defects are abnormalities present at birth that can affect any part of the body’s structure or function. These defects may result from genetic factors, environmental influences during pregnancy, or a combination of both.
Types of Congenital Birth Defects
Structural Defects:
- Heart Defects: Abnormalities in the heart's structure, such as holes in the heart (ventricular septal defect), valve defects, or abnormal connections between blood vessels.
- Cleft Lip and Palate: Gaps in the upper lip or roof of the mouth.
- Spina Bifida: Incomplete closure of the spinal cord and vertebrae, leading to varying degrees of disability.
- Clubfoot: Abnormal positioning of the foot.
- Craniosynostosis: Premature fusion of the skull bones, affecting skull shape and brain growth.
Functional Defects:
- Genetic Disorders: Conditions like Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy.
- Metabolic Disorders: Disorders affecting how the body processes nutrients and energy, such as phenylketonuria (PKU).
- Neurological Disorders: Disorders affecting the brain and nervous system, such as cerebral palsy.
- Sensory Disorders: Impairments in hearing or vision.
Causes

His very soft spoken, he really treats the patients and family well. He understands the problem of patients. Not just treats them but follows up with them. He makes sure he can do his best and provide his best when under his care. He has saved my life. The best doctor I would recommend it any one wants a plastic surgeon
