EMG
EMG stands for Electromyography, a diagnostic technique used to assess the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them (motor neurons). Here’s an overview of EMG, including its purpose, procedure, and applications in medical practice:
Procedure for EMG:
Preparation:
- The patient may be asked to avoid using lotions or creams on the day of the test.
- Comfortable clothing that allows access to the areas being tested is recommended.
EMG Testing:
- Needle Electrode Insertion: A fine needle electrode is inserted into the muscle being tested.
- Muscle Activity Recording: The electrode records the electrical activity of the muscle both at rest and during contraction.
- Observation and Analysis: The technician or physician observes and analyzes the electrical signals displayed on a screen or through audio feedback.
Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS):
- Electrodes Placement: Electrodes are placed on the skin over the nerve(s) being tested.
- Nerve Stimulation: A small electrical pulse is applied to stimulate the nerve, and the response is recorded.
- Analysis: Measures the speed and strength of nerve signals to assess nerve function.
Post-Test Care:
- Mild discomfort or muscle soreness may occur at the needle insertion sites, but this typically resolves quickly.
- Patients can resume normal activities immediately after the test unless instructed otherwise by the healthcare provider.
Benefits of EMG:
- Accurate Diagnosis: Provides objective data on muscle and nerve function, aiding in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Non-Invasive: Generally well-tolerated and does not involve exposure to radiation (except in rare cases when combined with imaging studies like MRI).
- Real-Time Feedback: Allows for immediate feedback during testing, facilitating interpretation and adjustment of testing protocols.

His very soft spoken, he really treats the patients and family well. He understands the problem of patients. Not just treats them but follows up with them. He makes sure he can do his best and provide his best when under his care. He has saved my life. The best doctor I would recommend it any one wants a plastic surgeon
