Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by the enlargement of breast tissue in males. It can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. This condition is common and can occur at any age. Gynecomastia can result from hormonal imbalances, certain medications, or underlying health conditions.
Causes of Gynecomastia
Hormonal Imbalance:
- An imbalance between estrogen (female hormone) and testosterone (male hormone) can cause breast tissue growth in males. This is common during puberty, aging, or due to certain health conditions.
Medications:
- Certain drugs can cause gynecomastia, including anabolic steroids, anti-androgens, some antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, antibiotics, ulcer medications, and chemotherapy.
Health Conditions:
- Conditions such as hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, liver disease, and tumors (especially those affecting hormone-producing glands) can lead to gynecomastia.
Symptoms of Gynecomastia
- Swollen breast gland tissue.
- Breast tenderness.
- In some cases, pain or nipple discharge.
Recovery from Surgery
- Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common. Pain medication and compression garments can help manage symptoms.
- Full recovery can take several weeks. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting during this period.
- Most patients experience a significant improvement in the appearance of their chest and relief from symptoms.
Risks
- Infection, bleeding, scarring, changes in nipple sensation, and asymmetry.
Considerations:
- Ideal candidates for surgery are in good overall health, have stable body weight, and have realistic expectations.
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help sustain surgical results.

His very soft spoken, he really treats the patients and family well. He understands the problem of patients. Not just treats them but follows up with them.
