Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, is a surgical procedure designed to change the shape, size, or proportions of the nose. It is performed for both cosmetic reasons to enhance the appearance of the nose and functional reasons to improve breathing.
Reasons for Rhinoplasty
Cosmetic Reasons:
- To change the size of the nose in relation to facial balance.
- To alter the width of the nose at the bridge or the size and position of the nostrils.
- To reshape the nasal tip that is enlarged, bulbous, drooping, or upturned.
- To correct asymmetry or deviation.
Functional Reasons:
- To improve breathing due to structural abnormalities like a deviated septum.
- To repair nasal deformities resulting from injury or trauma.
- To correct congenital defects.

Procedure
- Anesthesia: General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is used.
- Incisions: The choice between closed and open rhinoplasty determines the incision locations.

Reshaping the Nose Structure:Cartilage and bone may be removed or rearranged to achieve the desired shape.
Grafts from other parts of the body or synthetic implants may be used for structural support. - Correcting a Deviated Septum: If necessary, the septum is straightened to improve breathing.

Closing the Incisions: Incisions are closed with sutures.
Splints or nasal packs may be placed to support the nose as it heals.
Risks
- Infection, bleeding, scarring, difficulty breathing, numbness, and unsatisfactory results requiring revision surgery.
Considerations:
- Ideal candidates are non-smokers, in good health, and have realistic expectations.
